Hadn't seen that particular one but yes, it was splashed in the news yesterday.

Here is a link to Adorama TV's first look at it.

I've not been waiting for a full frame camera (actually like MikeSF I want the 645z medium format camera) but the price is right here and I have a bunch of full frame lenses. So...next year?

I'm so excited ....I just can't hide it.
It will be a while before I buy one but I suspect there will be deals a plenty on K3s. Are they much of a step up from a K5?
Best of all there will be new arguements on PF :w00t:

As much as I love my k5, the K3 is a cut above it.

How so Tim?
Does it have betterIQ , resolution and low light performance or is it considered superior because of consumer features?
FWIW I think most manufacturers put too much emphasis on "poly raz ma taz"

Hmmm... K3 vs. K5. More than just incrementally the K3 is quite a bit better than the K5. I still love the K5 controls better though. The 8 frames per sec. is really good on the K3 too. Yes there are more bells and whistles on the K3 but the larger sensor does make quite a difference and the lack of the AA filter as well.

There's more and more first looks etc. out there now. Not going to try to post them as PF take care of that. Bottom line is that I believe Pentax has hit the right price point / camera + features on this one. I'm in no hurry to buy one as I have a lot on my plate at the moment but...I expect to own one within the next year.

This camera + my looming retirement from my job this summer and other life stuff is making me take a long look at: 1) my gear, 2) needs, 3) creative direction in photography, and 4) the very real need to get organized. I've had to downshift my photography pursuits these past few months as many other life issues need addressing (nothing bad, just stuff). The good news for me is that all those wonderful old lenses I've collected are now going to be even more useful again. That's cool frankly.

very cool, BCB and I look forward to seeing what you do with it when that day comes.
I will likely stay put with the K3II (which I have not even broken in yet) for handhelds and then the MF for landscape. Although, I too would have liked to try some of my favorite FF K-mount lenses on the K1.

I was pleasantly surprised at the price point they chose for the K-1...was expecting it to be higher. Nice job Ricoh!

Hey guys , not that I'm going to jump on the new camera wagon (can't afford it) but I'm really not exactly happy with my Sigma 18-35 since it is not 2.8 across the range. In theory my 28-105 /2.8 should cover most everything on a full frame but it would be nice to have a 16ish to 50ish 2.8 that is FF capable. I thought such a beast did exist but I'm sure not finding it. Weren't some of the earlier Tamron 16-50s FF compatible?
Any suggestions?

I don't know about the Tamron 17-50, Amanda has it for her Canon but I don't think it's a FF lens.

Old thread but new input. I've upgraded to the Pentax K-1 (in February) and now have the DFA 24-70 f2.8, the DFA 150-450, and just got the DFA 15-30 f2.8. So far, I have to say that while the camera and lenses are beasts, the image quality is just outstanding. The best so far. Have only just scratched the surface on the features of the camera. There is a lot to learn about it. On my trip to Baja, the DFA 24-70 performed wonderfully for most things, and when we were out hunting whales, the DFA 150-450 nailed a lot more action shots than I've been able do to before. Amazing stuff.

I wish they would stuff that sensor in a compact NO FRILLS body and sell it cheap. I pretty much never use any consumer features.Rarely even use auto focus.
The KP kinda got my attention but I want full frame for my next move.
